The purpose of template is being able to abstract from the algorithm.

In practice, the type of the data to process is part of the
parameters. There is nothing wrong with other kinds of parameter:
numerical parameters, function pointer parameters or other templates.

The reason the language of templates is used is that it allows
generating code automatically at compile time. Some speak about
generative programming and meta-models ... check it out.

The best way to avoid recursion it using iteration.

The fact is that template programming is recursive thinking by nature
and there is no way to iterate (though that can be emulated with some
kind of list).

This code is not very useful in practice.

A more useful code would be to generate fibonacci into a container
(IMO a balanced tree) and provide a function to retrieve the value of
a stage at runtime.

There is not standard C++ solution.

Under UNIX, you may use the scandir() function of dirent.h: you can
give it a filter function that get only the files with your pattern
and a comparison function (from what you describe: versionsort) that
you can use to sort your files according to the fields.

Except the pointer may not be meant to be deleted twice and if that
happen, it is interesting to know about it. The issue is rather that
delete may be called twice but raise no error. That makes nasty bug to
locate.

None. It may even be desirable if the pointer may be initialised/
destroyed in multiple places (or in multiple thread/call).
Or to raise an error if the pointer is deferenced after being
destroyed.

True, but maybe there is the possibility of #define-ing in as LaTeX
would: \in. Or even the unicode character itself, but I don't know
offhand if the preprocessor will recognize the character.

Too bad that was written as an April Fool's joke :) The wing dings
with the telephone was priceless.

Still, the exaggeration doesn't mean it's a totally bad idea. You
could probably make an identifier out of the first chapter of
"Finnegan's Wake" and underscores, but that doesn't mean identifiers
are a bad idea in general. For example, I think at least a couple
people here would appreciate a cross-product, or dot-product operator.
But anyways, it's not a proposal of any sort. Just thinking out loud.

It is not directly related to thread safety, but your code has the
potential of running into C++'s static initialisation fiasco: If you
have objects with static lifetime and namespace scope (or as static
members of a class), and these objects are defined in different source
files, then it is unspecified in which order these objects are
initialised.
This becomes a problem if these objects can refer to each other.

For example, if you have another source file with this code:

#include "Singleton.h"
struct SingletonUser {
SingletonUser() { Singleton::getInstance().doSomething(); }
};

static SingletonUser su;

Then there is a significant chance that Singleton::getInstance() gets
called BEFORE Singleton::instance was initialised.

This problem can usually be prevented by writing getInstance like this:
Singleton& Singleton::getInstance()
{
static Singleton instance;
return instance;
}

But that has potential threading issues, if the first call can occur
from multiple threads and the compiler does not add sufficient
protection.
