This is more or less the approach which scripting languages like Python
are taking, which gives a reasonable syntax but overhead, because the
JSON must be parsed at runtime.
 
With C++17, I can imagine there is a solution which avoids the runtime
parsing. Initializer lists, variadic templates, ... ,
 
Would it be possible to do something like this:
 
function(arg1, arg2, {{"option1", arg}, {"option2", arg}})
 
? Bonus points if the "option" strings are evaluated at compile time.

In my case, the applications were related filesystem replication, so
data had to be parsed at run time. JSON was a natural on the wire format.

The main benefit with the blob approach was all of the (what would be)
optional information was in the blob, allowing all of the functions in
the receiver to have the same interface. So the top level dispatcher
(based a command field) was easy to write either as table driven or an
if/else tree.
 
Having the optional information also kept the decision logic local to
the function that processed a particular element. Something like:

{
createFile( blob );
 
applyACL( blob );
}
 
void createFile( JSON::Object blob )
{
if( !blob.has( "name" )
throw std::runtime_error("File must have a name!");
 
...
}
 
void applyACL( JSON::Object blob )

Peter Cheung attacked several groups with his flood of posts
against me, totaling up numbers that were far, far in excess
of anything close to my post count, even well over 200 posts
in a couple weeks.
 
You can do the same with comp.lang.c++. All it proves is you
don't care about the group you claim to care about, that you are
a criminal identity thief, and that you're someone who needs a
mask to post behind (no matter the subject), "Mr. Flibble."

I care about people, Leigh. The Lord asks us to go forth an teach
all the world. I will obey Him. His message is given for all who
will be saved. It is not given for those who won't. If the message
is not for you, then please know I am truly harmed by that fact be-
cause I do care about your future, and I want you to be saved.
 
My desire for you is that you will be saved from judgment for your
sin, saved from eternal damnation. I want you to prosper and thrive

So many people think Christianity is just a religion. And for many
that is truly all it will ever be. But for those who are saved and
born again of the spirit of God ... it is a relationship. You live
anew for God each day.

Also: The Bible shows that evolution does not exist. And indeed
all of creation and science shows that evolution does not
exist. The devil is not in the details, he's in the summary

There are several people I converse with, but it's given from the point
of view of teaching when it relates to Christianity and world-held view-
points.
 
You won't be able to find a flaw with the Biblical teachings. They are
from God, and they are comprehensive.
 
The only times flaws are cited is when a person looks superficially,
and does not take the time or effort to gain a true understanding of
why it is the thing they've identified is not actually a flaw.
 
The Bible is given to man by God through His Holy Spirit. It is a
supernatural teaching provided to give us natural guidance (in our
flesh), as well as spiritual guidance for those who are saved and
born again.
 
I teach you these things, but you won't hear them because you're
already convinced that what you believe is right, and that there
must instead be something wrong with me, which is why I won't
listen to you. I've been where you are. I was there for almost
35 years. When I was almost 35 years old I came to faith and now
I know the truth. It is that which I try and teach others, but
until a person is willing to seek the truth, it will never come
to them.
 
As I've stated, this teaching is for those who are being saved.
It is not given for other people.
