[...] An argument could be made that the text in the Standard implies this conclusion. To be clear, I mean a language-lawyer type argument that ignores looking at what was probably intended. I wouldn't say the argument is absolutely convincing, but it isn't obviously wrong either (IMO, in case that needs saying). If instead we are interested in what was probably intended, I think it's a lot harder to find a plausible argument. For one thing, malloc() is specified by the C standard, and the C standard says very clearly that the returned pointer value can be "used to access such an object or an array of such objects in the space allocated". If that were not the case I expect the C++ standard would at least have a "Note:" mentioning the difference somewhere around where it talks about malloc(). Looking through the C++ standard I didn't find anything. |

There is scripture conveying God in non-believer's good actions: https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Romans+2%3A14-16&version=NIV;KJV 14 (Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law. 15 They show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts sometimes accusing them and at other times even defending them.) Even in the natural man, God has restrained wanton wickedness in people who will follow their own built-in conscience. Some do not follow their conscience, and seer it, building up scars over time so they cannot even hear it later on: https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+Timothy+4%3A1-2&version=NIV;KJV 1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; God guides us, and provides all we need to achieve and overcome sin in this world. Will we obey Him? Will we pursue truth and rightness? Or will we follow sin and wickedness? For each person the choice is theirs, but God gives them the power to overcome if they will turn toward Him one degree. He'll show up and whip the person around the remaining 179 degrees with His desire and love to save. It is the story of the Prodigal Son, who left and squandered all he had, and finally coming to his own senses decided to go back home. His father saw him returning a long way off and ran out to meet him. God does this for all who will be saved. -- Rick C. Hodgin |
